Advanced Wall Insulation
Technical Description:

Poorly installed or inadequate amounts of wall insulation result in heat loss, higher heating and cooling costs, and comfort problems. High-efficiency insulation meets or exceeds the insulation levels required by the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and ultra-efficient insulation provides 50% more insulation than the 2009 IECC standard. High-efficiency and ultra-efficient wall insulation can be found in advanced framed walls that use 2x6 framing for deeper wall cavities with more widely spaced studs that allow more room for insulation. Insulation fills the entire wall cavity and is in contact with the interior and exterior wall surfaces to keep cold spots from forming. A layer of rigid foam sheathing provides a continuous insulating thermal break around the exterior of the home. By using high-efficiency and ultra-efficient insulation, home builders create well-insulated conditioned spaces that require very little effort to heat and cool, thereby reducing homeowner costs.
