Exhibit 2: DOE Zero Energy Ready Home Target Home

ZERH target home table

Exhibit 2 of the DOE Zero Energy Ready Home Target Home National Program Requirements lists the minimum performance criteria for heating and cooling equipment. Builders who are following the prescriptive path must meet these minimum requirements when installing heating and cooling equipment.

Builders who are following the performance path must model a target home that matches their design home but meets these criteria to determine a Home Energy Rating Index score that they will need to meet or exceed when building their home.

Installation guidance has been prepared for builders on some of the more common types of heating and cooling equipment available. This is not an exhaustive list and builders are welcome to select other heating and cooling options as long as their completed home meets the performance criteria or target home HERS index score required.

The following heating and cooling equipment guides are available:

This guide describes evaporative cooling technologies which can be used to cool homes in dry climates.

Guide describing combustion furnaces with compliance and installation guidance.

Guide providing information about geothermal (ground-source) heat pumps including an overview of technology and guidance on compliance and installation.

Guide describing gas-fired boilers and hot water heat distribution systems used for home heating.

Guide describing compression cooling air conditioning systems for space cooling.

Guide describing oil-fired boilers and hot water heat distribution systems used for home heating.

Guide describing condensing boilers and hot water heat distribution systems used for home heating.

Guide describing the split system heat pumps used for central forced air heating and cooling.
